March 23, 2021: Message from President DeGioia on Commencement 2021
Commencement will be held virtually this year with a two-part ceremony. The first part will be a University-wide degree conferral to be held at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 23, 2021. School-specific name recognition ceremonies will immediately follow and will last 60-120 minutes depending on the size of the school. Various smaller school tropaias and awards ceremonies each lasting less than an hour will occur virtually in the days leading up to commencement according to the schedule below. All times listed are ET. This page will be updated with more details as they become available.

For anyone who wishes to purchase cap and gown packages, rings, and other commemorative items, our official regalia provider, Jostens, is taking orders on their Georgetown specific ordering page.
What is Tropaia?
Tropaia essentially means Trophy and the Tropaia Ceremony is the event at which individual schools distribute awards. Each Dean’s office will inform students individually if they are receiving an award at this event.
The word Tropaia is ancient Greek and referred to a monument constructed to celebrate a military victory.
